William Penhale

William is the Principal Instructor and owner of the Surry Hills Pilates Studio. William is a qualified APMA Level 4 Pilates Practitioner. He has been practising Pilates for more than 20 years and has been an instructor in the method since 1993. William also holds a BA Hons (Psych) degree and has spent many years exploring the mind/body connection. This enables him to empower clients to better understand their bodies; posture, movement and condition and to build confidence in their skills of self management.

Kate DeMaere

Kate has a Diploma in Professional Pilates Instruction and is a member of PAA. She is a passionate advocate of the Pilates method having witnessed first-hand the wonderful restorative benefits that regular Pilates practice can provide. Kate is an empathic teacher and has experience working with people of all ages and abilities. Working in the public health sector for nearly two decades Kate has integrated her professional experience into her practice as an instructor. In collaboration with her clients Kate will develop effective programs that are both enjoyable and safe. She also holds a Masters Degree in Public Health.

Craig Taylor

Craig has practised Pilates since 1996 and completed the Graduate Certificate of Pilates Method in 2003. His instruction integrates his interest in, & experience of, the Feldenkrais Method (Awareness Through Movement). This encourages clients to develop a dialogue with their body with the aim to build a sense of ease as they move through each day.

Pilates has been of further benefit to Craig after being diagnosed with Parkinson Disease (PD) in 2005. PD challenged Craig to develop a repertoire to self manage his own condition. He is now using this to help others who have been similarly diagnosed.

Victoria Cowan

Victoria has been practising Pilates since 2005 and has been teaching since gaining her Diploma in 2010. She became interested in the method while rehabilitating a chronic pelvic condition. Having experienced the restorative powers of Pilates she is keen to assist her clients maximise its benefits for their bodies. She also has a special interest in the balancing systems of the body.


In taking up Pilates, my faith in the healing power of the body has been restored. With a program created specifically to deal with my physiological needs I have been able to confidently and knowledgably deal with long-term injury problems. Pilates has given me back the chance to simply be.
